Cavalier king charles spaniel?

I am going to get this breed of dog soon. What is the good and bad about this dog you know of? I have read up on the breed, but found some descriptions to be vague. I would like to know of personal expierences with the breed and maybe you could help me pick a name. The dog i have chosen is tricolor white/black/tan. Also, I already have a female westie should i get another female dog, as i prefer females, but do not know, if this is a good combo. I have never owned 2 dogs at the sametime and i am nervous.

Try to get a male, though. Female canines are notorious for bitter rivalry and dominance issues.





The Westie and the Cavalier will get along fine. The Westie might run circles around the Cavalier...but they will entertain one another.

Reply:I dont know much about cavs but i currently own 5 dogs so i know a bit about introducing a new dog. Two dogs is easy, if you get another female, make sure they are desexed, introduce them slowly and out of your westies comfort zone eg have someone bring the pup to a park and walk your westie down to meet them, then walk them home together, let them spend some time together at home, then separate them. Dont fuss too much over the pup or your westie will get jealous. Introducing a pup is easy because the established dog will tolerate a pup easier, then they can work out the heirarchy later. The westie will probably always be the dominant dog but if she is a bit of a sook and the cav is a bit bolder it may change. Call her 'Harper' or 'Guinea' because a black-and-tan beer is a harp larger and a guinness and it has a creamy white head on it. I work in a pub. Sorry.

Reply:If you get another dog and want to find a home for that Westie you can bundle her up and send her my way. I just love their little wooly faces. I think I'd get another Westie .. :) Two puppies to care for is a big responsibility so yes I'd feel nervous too.. I have had three dogs but draw the line there. with puppies that made 7 mouths to feed.. that's way too much puppy fun in one house.. lol.. Good thing I have two porches and lots of land to run on.
Reply:as long as both of your females are spayed there will be no problem... as for the cavalier,, they are great little dogs.... i am sure this dog will become your favorite... i certainly hope that you are getting her from a reputable breeder... as for the name,, ask the breeder if there is a theme for the litter ....remember , a responsible, reputable breeder,, will let you visit with pups many times before you actually take one home.. that way you will get to know personalities,, you should also get a health guarantee, you should be able to see the health clearances on BOTH parents.... etc. etc.. good luck and enjoy your new baby

Reply:My neighbor has a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and he is the SWEETEST dog in the world! Shes orange and white. I baby sat him when she was at work, and I was amazed at how quick he learned things. He is VERY playful, I would sometimes have to bring my Pekingnese over because he would tire me out. So it would be a wonderful companion for your Westie! The only bad thing I can think of is it likes to be around people/dogs all the time. I would have to leave the door open when I had to go to the bathroom or he would have a heartattack. But it was cute in a way.





Her dogs name is Mertzie. No idea how she got that name, but it fits and its very cute.





I think you will do fine will 2 dogs. Its very easy. I know you will enjoy this breed.
